Temple of Rust review

The military is throwing toxic waste in your neighborhood's water. It is causing mutations and whatnot. Your job as a hippie is to get things clean by breaking it all and blowing them up. Uh, yeah, you read that right. If it only were that easy in real life...

Small and large monsters will get in the way of what you are looking for. Combat has a lot of room for improvement, specially when it's only using the keyboard right now. The game feels like a pixel art portfolio, but it really is a serious project by this solo developer. It's free on Steam. It plays like a roguelike, but even though it kind of hooks you in, you just end up crying a bit because of the lack of content right now.

If you are a game developer or a hobbyist, playing Temple of Rust is a very curious experience. After you beat the first multi-zone level, which is the thing complete so far, you can still access everything else. An NPC clearly mentions it's all just a big "Work In Progress". Having total access to these huge chunks of code, art and gameplay feels like diving into this developer's mind.

While I do not recommend Temple of Rust for actual gaming, you should take a look at it if you're into the development process. You'll get to bash and throw stones using an upgradable slingshot on your way through really, really well drawn pixel art.

Thanks for your scavenging, this seems like a little gem. Art is wonderful truly!

Still in development, it seems. Slowly but surely.
