Trump says US-China deal 'is done'

"Trump said that, subject to final approval from President Xi Jinping and himself, the US will get the rare earth metals it needs, while Chinese students can take up their places at American colleges.
[...] "Full magnets, and any necessary rare earths, will be supplied, up front, by China. Likewise, we will provide to China what was agreed to, including Chinese students using our colleges and universities (which has always been good with me!).""

--- If that means that all Chinese students will again be admitted without additional checks, then that only proves what a moron Trump is. He has no idea how to handle China.

Trump says China tariffs will stay high after two days of talks

"Trump said in a post on his Truth Social platform, although he didn’t clarify the exact terms. Trump also said, without explaining further, that “we are getting a total of 55% of tariffs, China is getting 10.”"

--- Huh? I doubt that China would agree to that. But:

"A White House official told NBC News that the 55% figure isn’t new, as it reflects the 30% tariffs Trump added this year in addition to pre-existing duties totaling 25%."

--- Turns out, Trump is just Trumpeting again.

"Trump added in a later Truth Social post that “President XI and I are going to work closely together to open up China to American Trade.”"

"Lutnick said Wednesday morning on CNBC that the U.S. told China it would "absolutely not" be getting exports of high-powered American semiconductors."

--- Well, that would be at least something.

As US trade truce gets back on track, some Chinese exporters are 'slowly dying'

"In April, when tariffs were at their highest, the number of loss-making Chinese industrial firms rose 3.6% year-on-year to 164,467 - a whopping 32% of the total, official statistics show."

--- Mind you, just a part of those 3.6% is related to the 'trade war', that only shows (as far as official numbers can show anything) that around 30% (officially) of China's industry had already been making losses.

China's factory-gate deflation worst in 22 months as economic headwinds mount

"The producer price index fell 3.3% in May from a year earlier, worse than a 2.7% decline in April and the deepest contraction in 22 months, National Bureau of Statistics data showed on Monday.
The consumer price index dipped 0.1% last month from a year earlier, after falling by the same amount in April and slightly better than a Reuters poll forecast of a 0.2% decline.
CPI slid 0.2% on a monthly basis, compared with a 0.1% increase in April, and matched economists' predictions of a 0.2% decline.
Fragile domestic demand remains a drag on China's economy despite a recent flurry of policy support measures. "

--- Still going down. & yet, ctrl+F for recession still shows zero results.

China's electric cars are becoming slicker and cheaper - but is there a deeper cost?

"Joseph Jarnecki, research fellow at defence and security think-tank The Royal United Services Institute, argues that potential risks can be mitigated.
"Chinese carmakers exist in this highly competitive market. While they're beholden to Chinese law and that may require compliance with national security agencies, none of them want to damage their ability to grow and to have international exports by being perceived as a security risk," he says.
"The Chinese government equally is conscious of the need for economic growth. They're not hell-bent on solely conducting surveillance.""

--- This naive bullshit is sadly still quite common in Europe. The problem is not so much what China is doing, but what China will be capable of doing if push comes to shove.

"The reality is most of us have smartphones and things from China, from the US, from Korea, without really giving it a second thought. So I do think there's some fearmongering going on about what the Chinese are capable of."

--- Equating China with the USA or South Korea is just moronic.

Beijing’s green mirage: How China drives environmental destruction abroad while claiming climate leadership at home

"While China touts its ecological civilisation – a new system of development that stresses the harmonious coexistence of humanity and nature – at home, its voracious appetite for imported soy, beef, palm oil, and tropical timber has caused damage across some of the world’s most critical ecosystems. According to a recent Forest Trends report, China’s tropical deforestation footprint, linked to imports of high-risk agricultural and timber commodities, accounted for as much as five per cent of carbon emissions from tropical and subtropical deforestation during 2013–22.
The environmental consequences of these imports don’t stop at deforestation. They also carry a massive carbon price tag. China’s imported deforestation, led by trade with Brazil, Indonesia, and Malaysia, is responsible for as much as 200 million metric tons of CO2 per year. That’s equivalent to 20–30 per cent of China’s domestic agricultural emissions. Worse still, these embedded emissions are invisible in its nationally determined contributions (NDCs) under the Paris Agreement, creating a glaring climate credibility gap."

--- Credibility gap? Only idiots give the CCP any credibility at all.

"China must extend its “ecological civilisation” beyond its borders"

--- Phhh... That implies that 'ecological civilisation' is more than just propaganda.
