Save money by switching providers.

Making changes for profit.

Now that i have some time on my hands again it's a good time to look at where we have been making mistakes over the past 12 months.

Comparing bills and switching providers is a quick way to make some savings and since there is very little to be made from banks I need to be more creative in how i can earn some extra money.

Saving money is just the same as earning more money, better in some cases depending on taxes and expenses that go into earning.

Reasons to Switch Regularly:

  • Cost Savings: Providers often offer competitive introductory rates or discounts to new customers. For example, switching broadband providers every 1-2 years when contracts end can save significant money, as loyalty rarely pays off with better rates (Money Saving Expert suggests reviewing broadband deals annually).

  • Better Service: Newer providers might offer improved technology, faster speeds, or better customer support. For instance, switching to a provider with 5G coverage could enhance mobile service if your current one lags.

  • Market Competition: Regularly shopping around encourages providers to keep prices low and innovate. Energy markets, for example, reward switching when fixed-rate deals expire, as default tariffs are often pricier (Ofgem data supports this).

  • Bundling Opportunities: Switching to a provider that bundles services (e.g., internet + TV) can sometimes reduce overall costs or simplify billing.

Current broadband bills.

When we signed with Eir originally it was an introductory offer of $40 a month for the first 12 months. Great value at the time and even over the 24 month contracts we came out of it quite well.

Now that the contract has ran it's course it is a good time to see about switching to a new provider or even better just threatening to move so that we are offered a better deal for the next two years.

We have a website here that can compare different companies and find the latest offers for your convenience called switcher.ie.

Just looking at the broadband section we have two offers form Virgin Media on top which is a reputable provider and well known company.

Switching to one of these plans will save between $500 - $900 over the course of two years which is a nice amount to earn. All done with a few emails and a small bit of time.

You would need to work a lot of hours to earn $900 after tax so to manage that kind of saving with 1-2 hours work is well worth it.

Work smarter, not harder.

The site has a whole host of providers across multiple sectors so with a bit of time i can switch multiple different services and hopefully save a couple of thousand over the next few years. That's even before getting into mortgage providers where there are huge savings to be made between the different banks if you can make the right moves.

A lot of people forget that saving money is just as important as earning it sometimes even more.
