Peterhof Palace in Saint Petersburg

The Peterhof Palace in Saint Petersburg is one of the most famous and recognized monuments of the Russian Imperial epoch. The palace is located on the shore of the Gulf of Finland so the whole complex is often referred to as the "water palace" or the "Grand Palace on the waters", also translated as the "Peterhof Palace on the Gulf", the "Shrine on the Waters", or the "Russian Palace in the Sea".

Peter the Great wanted this palace to become the center of Russian culture in the early 18th century, as a rival to the Palace of Versailles in France.'We're marooned, Maris.'

'Sorry, what was that, Sam?'

'I said we're marooned, Maris. I mean marooned as in stuck in here, not marooned as in cast away from our friends.'

'Sam, you said we're marooned, not cast away.'

'I know, it's just the word choice.'

'Whatever.'

'Look, it's just the way I say it.Peterhof is a suburb of Saint Petersburg, Russia, situated along the shore of the Gulf of Finland of the Baltic Sea, west of the city center.

This was an unusual commission in that I was paid upfront to create an interior of this palace. I was rather confused by such an unusual commission, but having been paid upfront I felt it would be rude to say no.

So I set about the design. The client was very specific in that he wanted the design of a ballroom. One would image the more luxurious the ballroom the better. But in reality this was a ballroom for a Tsar and his family. They would one day reside in this ballroom so it would have to befit the Palace they would reside in. So when I arrived to the Palace and the very spacious ballroom I was taken back-as I mentioned, it was large, but I did expect it to be larger even so.

I began my design.

My design had to be that of an opulent ballroom, a luxurious ballroom, a grand ballroom. But I really wanted to make it a place where the hungry could see, one could see peasants at the door. It was not a private ballroom as I was not paid to create a private ballroom. It was a ballroom to be enjoyed by all. Even if it meant the little people could see in.

I was paid extra for this design, and it was a design the Tsar approved of. It was a royalty approved design.

This is a design I am very proud of.

Peterhof as I said is a suburb of Saint Petersburg. A rather large suburb in which to build a palace.

I performed my job not just for the money but to design a luxury and make a proper and glorious level of comfort for the royals of the day.

Thank you Nerisse for such an excellent and long story and I am sure it is appreciated by all.

He could not believe the nerve of this prancer who just got done ravishing the maidservant who introduced them to each other a few minutes before. He could smell his unparalleled arrogance in the air. They were walking along the streets of this luxurious city now, enroute to the palace, their final destination.

'What a perfect gentleman. What a paragon of chivalry,' Davit whispered to himself.

'Peterhof,' the prince pronounced this as he was entering the palace.

As Davit slowed him down and looked around with envy, the prince stared at the magnificent buildings behind him as he spoke about his family's residence. Looking around, Davit could see the stunning park-like scenery surrounding the estate. Looking at all these houses, Davit wanted to throw up.

'At least this one is a tad bit different than the others. I just can't put my finger on it yet,' Davit thought to himself. He shifted his attention to the majestic gates of the mansion and stopped dead in his tracks.

Huge lush green lawns, flowering bushes, and impeccably manicured trees surrounded the house.
