It was a long weekend called Victoria Day up here in Canada. Kind of a special one after a long winter and often considered the unofficial start to summer. Back in the day, we called it May 2-4 weekend where we would always grab a case of beer and go get loaded in a camp ground.
First, the prompt!
What do you love about your city/town and what do you hate/dislike? Explain in both cases.
What I love about my little town is how much there is going on in the spring and summer. Safe and accessible with the small town feel of a tight community but world class theatre performers and other artists sprinkled on.
What I hate is that it is a small enough town that there are old and ignorant fuckers who don’t know racism and bigotry are obsolete. Someone paints a sidewalk rainbow colours and the rednecks burn out on them in their trucks with the nuts. I have heard “I am not racist but…” knowing that whatever comes next proves they are racist.
Now back to the weekend! The 3-day weekend started out a little rainy and stormy. Not ideal when you have outdoor work to do but perfect when a long weekend means an extra day to procrastinate and still get your stuff done.
We needed the rain too and I made sure to snap some garden pics after the rain.
We did some brewing too as a Golden Ale had to come off fermentation. We usually take that opportunity to brew another and reuse some of the yeast in the next batch.
As you do on the weekend, and during brewing which is thirsty work, I did enjoy a few long weekend beers. This one was a lager which I am not particularly fond of the style. Nice and clean and clear and crisp with a little flavour so not bad at all.
The big project for the weekend was preparing the garden for planting. Having procrastinated all the hard work til today, I had quite a bit to do. You might be able to see there were garden boxes to repair, soil to till and plenty of dead stuff to clean up.
I suppose I can show you the after shot without spoiling the #gardenhive post I have in the pipe for this week. Not bad!
It just would’t be a complete weekend for the little guy if we didn’t make some trips to the dog park. We got an hour a day there so he can run around and have the time of his life.
That about capped my 10k steps off on what was a great end to a spring long weekend.
