My Parents and I Made MAJA BLANCA... Here's MAJA BLANCA ala Mi Familia <3 [Procedure with Pictures]

in Foodies Bee Hive3 years ago

Hey friends! It's Shei here and I am so excited to share something with you today. I hope we all get full or stuffed after reading this post.

Earlier today, my parents and I tried to make something together. It's Good Friday and most of the time, we make "binignit" or the typical rice gruel in my region during this season. However, we wanted to make something different this time and decided to make Maja Blanca instead.

Maja Blanca is a Filipino dessert. It's basically a coconut pudding which Filipinos usually serve in special events. It's sweet and creamy. Well, there are many ways to make it and perhaps it differs from family to family. And today, I'm going to show you our family's style of Maja Blanca.

Let's Start!!!

Here's one of the finished product, but allow me to show you how we arrived into this colorful and delicious coconut pudding. :)

What are the Ingredients?

image.png

These are basically all the ingredients we need, but let's try to check them individually.

image.png

This one here is a mixture of 2 cans of evaporated milk and all purpose flour.

image.png

This is 6 cups of coconut milk. We used a natural one... so we had to mix the grated coconut with water and strain it to get the milk. However, there are ready-to-use coconut milk in the market. I'm not sure if it's as good as the natural one, though.

image.png

Then, we have these crushed nuts. We used "happy" nuts from the store and just crushed them to bits. We're going to use this both in the mixture as well as in the toppings.

image.png

Grated cheese... also for the mixture and toppings. :) That's two cups of it.

image.png

One a half cups of white sugar...

image.png

Here's a can of cream corn. Others use more, but I'm not a huge fan of corn, so we had to adjust it. ^^

image.png

A box of all purpose cream and a can of condensed milk

Those are the ingredients we need. Well, you can adjust the amount of ingredients the way you want it. Cheese isn't really a part of it typically, but I love cheese... it's also expected for the coconut pudding to be sweet, so in order to kill or lighten the sweetness, cheese is the answer! So, since everything is prepared, we can now start with the next step.

How to Create Maja Blanca (my family's style)

  • It's simple! Just mix all the ingredients together in a pan or a container where you want to cook it in. There isn't any rule on which comes first or something. Just mix it thoroughly and evenly. Check out the pictures below.

Sorry if some of the pictures appear to be blurry. I was taking them while my mother was pouring all of them in one container. But I tried... we tried. <3

image.png

We have here the mixture. Remember not to mix in all the cheese and crushed nuts. Leave some for the toppings later on. :)

  • And since the mixture is done, let's now cook it!

image.png

We decided to transfer the mixture into a bigger pan to avoid it from spilling over.

image.png

Making maja blanca is simple but also tedious. We have to constantly mix it until the texture becomes thicker and the consistency becomes stickier; and only then can we transfer it to another container for freezing or chilling.

image.png

See? The texture and consistency has changed over time, but this one's not ready enough. We took turns stirring it because our arms were about to fall off. JK.. that's an exaggeration

image.png

Once we achieved the texture we wanted, we transferred it into another container to add toppings and finally place them in the refrigerator. Our family want it to be softer and creamier, so we decided on this. If you want it to be more jelly-like or a bit harder, you can do so. Some people even add gelatin powder or similar things on it.

Now, it's my favorite... Decorating the dessert. :)

image.png

Typically, people just use nuts or corn toppings... but I love cheese, so I designed this alternately with nuts and cheese. It looks cute, but a little boring for me... so I got some nips chocolate from the store and placed them on top. :)

image.png

Isn't it pretty? It looks better now. haha

image.png

My work or design station... lol~

image.png

We also prepared some in smaller containers so we could share with our neighbors later in the day. I hope they'll like it as well. Sharing is loving, isn't it? ^^

image.png

Lastly, I placed it inside the freezer. It'll be ready in a couple hours or so. <3

That's the whole preparation. It's easy, right? You just need to be patient in stirring and also imaginative in designing. It's shared effort from me, mama and papa. It was fun!

The mixture we prepared earlier didn't fit, so this one is from the second batch. I decorated it similarly, but in another style. haha I love how colorful it looked. I guess the black container made it look prettier. haha

We actually had it for lunch a while ago. It was so delicious. <3 It was sweet, but because it was blended with cheese, it tasted much better. By dinner time, we're going to give out the smaller ones to some of our neighbors.

Would you like to try it too? What toppings do you think would suit it? Comment down below!
