Daddy Points

in Reflections10 days ago

It has taken hundreds of hours, thousands of euros and a million calories burned, but I have finally earned enough daddy points within the family club to qualify for recognition for doing the work.

The sticks in the picture are lavender. My favourite.

The prize will be a massage.

Totally worth it.

I would add a picture of the patio, but the electrician was here today and wasn't able to finish, so things aren't quite ready. It will take a couple weeks from now because he is going on holiday with his kids. And this is not much of an issue for us, as the nights are long. The only thing we will not have that would be nice, is an outlet to plug in a speaker.

My wife goes back to work tomorrow and while she doesn't want to, Smallsteps is upset because she has had such a great time with her, and now she thinks it is all over. We still have a few things on the cards before school starts in a few weeks though - nothing too big, but maybe a little different for her. But to mark the end of the family summer vacation, we went into the city for a bite to eat. Nothing fancy, just a short time to be together today, since they were at the beach, and I was working in the yard and helping the electrician - like sliding on my back and belly under the deck to secure cables.

And then we got a deal.

We have been looking for a sun umbrella to cover part of the terrace, but also hoping to get one on a deal, since the summer is coming to an end and the sales have started already. And the restaurant we went to is in a shopping centre and has a furniture place just across the walkway from it, so I wanted to go in just to have a look. And there, standing at the door, was a decent umbrella in the colour we wanted, on sale at 50% off for 300. But they were selling the floor model for 170. And after my small business discount applied, it was under 160.

Almost 75% off. Score!

Since we are getting one anyway, getting it for a quarter of the price of what we expected we'd have to pay is great. The only thing is I will have to pick it up tomorrow and take it apart myself. I have read the instructions online and it shouldn't be too difficult. But I am a bit unsure how I will get it into the car :D

But I will find a way. Otherwise I lose Daddy Points.

I got the card at dinner from Smallsteps and it felt really good to be acknowledged like this for the work around the house. And, on the way home from the city we stopped at the shops to buy some ice creams and then we sat on the patio together eating and talking about how nice the garden looks. The weather has been hot and for tonight at least, even the mosquitoes were hidden away and we could just enjoy the company and then water the garden together.

I don't often collect enough Daddy Points to qualify for anything, so I will savour today for a long time.

Aww that's sweet, and adorable card too XD

Score on the umbrella, nice! Did you manage to get it disassembled and Tetrised into a vehicle and out and reassembled? XD

It was actually pretty funny. After reading all the instructions, I realised it was one hand-turned screw. Broke into two parts and it was easily in the car! :D

Daddy points sounds like the ultimate compliment and recognition. You must be doing a very good job on the patio. Congrats!

Enjoy those last fleeting days of vacation! I'm also down to two more weeks, just like Smallsteps. I'm going to make them count... lots of playing and dancing at these festivals!

Does all the dancing keep you fit do you think? I reckon it helped me a lot at the time, but it was ages ago. In the forties, I suspect it must!

For sure. I move the way my body feels like moving. It is an excellent release and a fun way to be active a few times a week without it feeling like a chore.

The best part of the dancefloor is the shared communal energy. There's nothing like a packed club all moving as one to the beat. All that wild young energy on the dancefloor, that's really the secret sauce that keeps me young (hang out with young people).

getting it for a quarter of the price of what we expected we'd have to pay is great

Love that feeling!

THe patio sounds great look forward to seeing the finished version.

Love that feeling!

For sure. Sales are designed to make us buy, but it isn't a sale unless the thing is actually on the list - otherwise it is just spending :)

it isn't a sale

No, it isn't, and I've just written similar about coupons (I'm doing a no-buy month as we do from time to time in Saturdays Savers Club - it's more about intentional spending than completely no-buy, and is often illuminating).

But this is about something that was on your list, so it is a great feeling!

We were under a heat advisory most of the day today. I spent as little time outside as possible. I'm hoping the rest of the weekend doesn't go that way. Congrats on getting your patio mostly finished. I can't wait to see some photos.

Geez, you guys have had hot day after hot day. Do you head to the local pool?

No, just hang out in the A/C. I actually did a bit of work outside the other day and I grilled too, but I limited my time in the heat. We aren't going to get relief until probably Wednesday this week. I've only been swimming twice this summer in my in laws pool.

Such besutiful acknowledgment from the family member is always satisfying. It motivates to collect more point... afterall they are everything .... looking forward to see the patio sooner with the umbrella set.

Everyone is a collector of something!

Matthew starts school the first week of September, he still has a month to sleep extra hours. The second week of August, we will be participating in the Toronto Dragon Boat Racing Festival, an event that celebrates Asian culture with dragon boat racing and performances by local artists.

I understand Smallsteps because that's how Matthew is with me as he approaches the week of being with his mum, you know, the joint custody thing.

We look forward to seeing how those jobs on the outside of his house go. Blessings.

Will you be in a dragon boat paddling too?

Joint custody can be hard in some ways, but if the relationship of the parents is amicable, it can also be okay for the child. As the electrician said the other day who has recently broken up - two happy homes are better than one sad.

An Asian friend I met here invited us to be part of the crew. It's not a competition, it's multicultural living. I liked the idea of separating two marriages that in the end are now happy, rather than ending up with a sad one…

Daddy points can be very difficult to collect, but so sweet when you get them. And I'm sure you'll be getting more and more of them

I wonder how much stuff I have to build though!

If you have a friend with a truck or a van you could get them to help out :) Otherwise here in US there is always Home Depot truck rental for $19 :)

We are going over to our favorite Indian place in like 15 minutes so that will be our family outing to restaurant this week, hopefully we don't find anything on sale nearby... :)

What is your favourite Indian dish? I wish we could go and eat like that, but Smallsteps can't do the spice. A legacy of all her food allergies. One day she will learn though.

I don't think there is a favorite, I love their curry dishes. And there are so many that taste great. Also, love the tiffins they are all vegetarian but still great.

I would add a picture of the patio, but the electrician was here today and wasn't able to finish, so things aren't quite ready.

I don't know why, but I envisioned this an electric chair on the deck. My brain association works in strange ways.

Good luck with the umbrella. It was a good deal. Well, it will be, if you can get it home ;)

When is smallsteps going to tokenise her daddy points so you can trade them for HIVE?

Like an electric chair on the patio for execution?

We keep ours in the basement.

Daddy points might do really well as a meme coin and attract more women to crypto. So many have daddy issues.

Like an electric chair on the patio for execution?

Yes, or if you would like to offer comfort, an electric bed. I had a growth chopped off my nose a few years back, the nurse invited me to lie on the electric chair. I giddily asked if it was like the Electric Chair, except more comfortable, and I think they wanted to call a suicide hotline.

basement

Stairs... that go... below ground?! Never heard of 'em ;) All I have under my feet is this mysterious conductive gel. The nice man in the hood told me I could have it, it would be could for my skin...

Daddy points might do really well as a meme coin and attract more women to crypto. So many have daddy issues.

Why not invest in Chocolate, instead? We can tokenise redemptions of chocolate into real chocolate, or wine, or cosmetics, or whatever other FMCG the fairer, more elegant gender enjoys, and create a redemption store, like.. some sort of airline's loyalty store.

And because they're all queens, its perfect that they come to the hive, right?!

Edit: or we could recruit outside of the hollywood / consumer stereotype and get some umbrella assembly / disassembly experts available for hire on hive

In fact, that would make an interesting community... Broken Umbrellas...

And because they're all queens, its perfect that they come to the hive, right?!

Perhaps this should be part of the marketing efforts - "The Queen Bee"

Petition to start calling whales Queen Bees

A wholesome win all aroundm hard work, lavender, a sweet deal, and a well-earned massage. Daddy Points well spent!

That's a big recognition and appreciate to receive for all the good work done as daddy's point is really deserved.

That picture of the lavender sticks must look stunning with your patio in the background even if it’s still a work in progress, it seems like you’re putting together a cozy spot for family time :)

It is nice to be recognized for your efforts. Our favorite neighbor sometimes says that she does a lot of work in her yard but most of that work seems to be invisible to others.

I guess you've really been doing well with this daddy points earning, I really do not know much about this, in fact looks like it's the first time I'm hearing "Daddy points" and I feel like, I would get to know how to earn this with you if I keep following your posts. I belief daddy points is something that has great potential in the future.

That's really adorable. I too used to make several cards for my father on every occasion and he still has the collection of each of them, these are actually the best years of life which one enjoys the most either the parents and the children. Nostalgia really hits hard when I see such things. It was really amazing going through your post and all these cute stuff.
Have a good day!!!

awwwwww.. daddy points! How great to get those. 😉😎👊☂️

and score on the umbrella. You got a good deal for sure.
