Hey Actifitters,
To enjoy yesterday's sunny weather, I had planned to visit one of the local parks with Kaia. Of course, getting up super late and finishing several things at home made us very late. But I was determined and we headed to Kensington Metropark anyways. Because of the late hour, and also because Kaia is still recovering, we could not do our usual long walk. So we parked a couple miles before my favorite sunset spot, and started our walk near one of the numerous picnic area and playground. Great view to start with!
The good thing with starting there is that we can get to the lake very quickly.
There were very few people, but lots of seagulls preparing for the sunset.
It wasn't exactly sunset time yet, but the colors were changing already.
We reached another picnic and playground area. Like I said, plenty of them around the lake.
Such a perfect view to have a picnic!
We then arrived near the boat launch for the sailing school. But just before that, it was time for a photoshoot with Kaia of course! A bit challenging against the bright sun.
But the golden hour light on the other side was way better anyways.
That sailing school area is probably one of my favorites in this park, if not the favorite.
All the boats are stashed for the winter of course.
More seagulls were having their afternoon meeting.
Funny how there's always the supervising one of the bigger posts.
And finally the public boat launch, the place to be for the sunset!
Last time I participated in Around the World contest, I am pretty sure it was already with a photo in that same park. In a very different season, and also a different location in the park. But what remains the same: how to choose which photo to submit? After plenty of hesitation, I am going with this one:
By that time, our shadows were gigantic but we still had a few minutes.
So we walked a bit further to confirm one thing: colorful fall season is definitely over and most leaves are now on the ground.
I also wanted a shot at this slightly different view.
But we quickly turned around and went back to the boat launch for the rest of the sunset.
And a few gazillion more photos while the sun finished its descent.
Eventually, we had to start walking back the way we came.
I was joking about the seagulls meeting, but even before the end of the sunset, they were all gone!
Back to the first beach, Kaia wanted to get closer to the water. I can't let her go in unfortunately, because there's a lot of toxic algae in some of the Michigan lakes. And even though I am not sure about this particular one, I just don't want to risk it.
But that didn't mean we couldn't have another photoshoot. And Kaia gave a few good poses. This was my favorite.
At the end of this beach, there's the water slide. It's obviously closed for the season.
Just a few last shots from the beach. So calm and soothing...
And we were done. Just in time for the Moon rise.
By the time we finished our walk, it was kind of chilly, low 30s (just around freezing). That's great of course, like I always say, the colder, the better! But with only one light shirt, I wasn't dressed for it. So I admit the seat warmers on the drive back felt really good! Kaia was very quiet on the way back. These walks are always very tiring for her (it was same for Genepi). Probably the excitement of a different place, with new scents and distractions. And it was also her first one since her surgery. She did good!
Well, sorry for all these photos, but I literally had hundreds more! Hope you enjoy our little hike anyways. I know we did!
As always, thanks for stopping by and see you tomorrow.
