The shoe is on the other foot - a 5 minute Free Write - prompt "You Are a Leader"

"What an absolute Pox bottle of a day, sure I couldnt possibly go out in it, I'd be drowned"

"Ah, don't get me started on that lad, sure he wouldn't know his arse from his elbow, sure isn't a wonder he can even find the Dáil (parliament) of a morning."

"Well he wouldn't hit a barn door from two yards and we're paying him €110,000 a week, he's about as useful as an ashtray on a motorbike"

"Did ya see you're man last night on Tommy Tiernan live, sure he may as well have had Father Stone on, twas like watching paint feckin dry so it was"

We spend a lot of time across society bitching and moaning about this and that. It might be the weather or overpaid footballers. It could be less than entertaining guest on a favorite talk show or a political party not following through on pre election promises. Yes, believe it or not, that actually happens, some politicians are not truthful. Who'd have thunk it!?

Now that we are on the subject of politicians, and you'll see from my sarcasm above that they are not high up on my Christmas card list, let's scratch the surface a bit. What I would say about them is they have a difficult job, which is often fairly thankless, with every Tom, Dick and Harry questioning their decisions, their policies and their scruples.

Let's pretend for a minute that you become the Prime Minister or leader of your country for a day, a week, a year, a term, whichever you like. Which period of time would you opt for and what changes would you bring into law if they were guaranteed to be passed and ratified?

It's one thing to bitch and moan about what others do and don't do, but now you have the power, what changes would you bring about?

Five Minute Free Writes

28 days without a Freewrite, Ok that's more than long enough and officially time for me to give one of these prompts a shot, so here I am and I hope you enjoyed my little meandering story above.

Do you know about Free writes? When I first arrived on Hive or the previous chain, I would often struggle for ideas on what to write about, and there were two writing initiatives that really helped - one was called #fiftywords where you could use only fifty words to tell a story about a prompt word and the other was #freewrite which basically sets a challenge of writing a mini story within 5 minutes. I regularly took part in both, and people like @mariannewest and @felt.buzz and loads of other brilliant people, so every now and then I see a post from @mariannewest and think to myself, go and do a freewrite. I hope to continue to pop in every now and then to say hello.

Maybe you've never heard of the freewrites yourself, and if that is the case, I'd encourage you to have a go, read about todays prompt and how to enter below and above all else mind yourself and have a great day - smile, rub a dog, help a stranger and just be a nice human.

Politicians can only create rules or guidance, not laws. They also rule through the consent of the governed. That is the consent of each person, not a consensus. Therefore partaking in politics makes no sense. I have never voted and never will. If people want change, they should be the change they would like to see imo.

Interesting. It must be different in your country. Here in Ireland, making new laws is one of the main tasks of the Oireachtas. A draft of a proposed new law is called a Bill. Once a Bill is signed into law by the President, it becomes an Act and is added to the Statute Book. They also have the power to amend or remove certain laws by having a referendum. We have these regularly in Ireland, it used to be illegal here to get divorced, to get married if gay, have an abortion...

Therefore partaking in politics makes no sense. I have never voted and never will.

While I appreciate your point of view, I disagree with it fundamentally, and I always vote and encourage people to do the same.

Thanks for the great engagement @mypathtofire

Thanks for the great topic, politics is always a controversial one! lol

Ha ha, yep! Sure is, but Hive is great and everything is on the table and people are very open and willing to listen to opinions which may differ to there own.

My favorite politician is Willy O Dea, the minister for G.

No way!!! Ha ha, you know the Rubberbandits, class!

How did you come across these lads from Ireland?

Have you heard any of the prank calls? Very funny....

BAHAHAHA "Useless as an ashtray on a motorcycle" !LOLZ 🤣😂 Lots of damn good laughs in here!

If I had the power to change any laws I wanted? ANY? Whew.

It's hard because even our best intentions can cause terrible harm.

Plenty of people agree with my gripes... When I make it illegal to monetize prisons or mark up life saving drugs beyond a few percent, some people would run out into the streets to cheer for me... and then maybe the drugs would become unavailable and people would die, or there would be riots from Americans who LOVE prisons! (I wish this was totally comedy, it's a thing.)

Who knows man. I'd still go for it, but I'm not sure what I would achieve in the end 😅. There is only one sure fire way to thwart good intentions, and it's to mix in human nature 😂 !LUV !PIZZA

I was going to tell you a time travel joke...
but you didn't like it.

Good point well made caller!! Ya, I can totally appreciate that, but the two that you highlight are excellent ones in my opinion and I would definitely get behind both, especially the not monetising the Prison system one. The drugs one is a little more complex though, as these multinational spend millions or in some cases billions on the R&D that goes into making a viable drug and often times there are failures that cost millions and lead to nothing in the end. I think countries should do their bit in that case though and subsidise the drug for their people. We are lucky that this happens in Ireland for lots of drugs and there is also a Drug Payment scheme where the max monthly payment is €80, although not every drug (particularly crazy expensive ones) are on it.

Thanks for the great engagement though, I'd vote you in @grindan!
